Few Americans who have had the opportunity to visit other countries have not returned with a renewed sense of wonder and appreciation for the magnificence of our great nation. America's unprecedented achievements-and leadership role in the world-are due in part to the great alertness and creativity of its people. We are largely a nation of immigrants, descendents of those who left their homelands and risked a perilous and uncertain journey to the new world. These were brave and hearty souls with great goals and initiative, and a willingness to sacrifice for them. We are, collectively, the offspring of this boldness and creativity.

Another, deeper reason for America's rise to global preeminence is that the American people, and the democratic institutions put forth by America's founders, are in harmony with natural law-in tune with the laws of nature that govern the progress of the individual and society.

What is natural law? The laws of nature are the orderly principles governing life throughout the physical universe. According to science, natural law governs everything. Nothing happens that is not the direct result of natural law: from the motion of a particle to the changing of the seasons, from the emergence of life to the functioning of entire societies. Our ability to accomplish anything, individually and as a society, is through the skillful application of the laws of nature in daily life.

The electric light, which has profoundly revolutionized our lifestyle, is a simple application of the laws of electrodynamics. Medicines are applications of the laws of chemistry and human physiology. In a similar way, other advanced applications of natural law through chemical, electronic, and nuclear technologies are transforming the face of human civilization.

Now, to continue to progress and flourish as a nation, we must bolster our alliance with natural law. It is unfortunately true that many of our institutions, modern technologies, and patterns of behavior increasingly violate the laws of nature. Our medicines with their dangerous side-effects, chemical pesticides and fertilizers, genetically-engineered crops, and even some of our financial institutions are sowing the seeds of future epidemics, class warfare, and environmental disasters. We are losing favor with natural law.

Fortunately, in raising these concerns, and in promoting solutions that are forward-looking, prevention-oriented, and in harmony with natural law, the Natural Law Party is not a "voice crying in the wilderness." America is in the midst of a great awakening. Tens of millions of citizens are realizing the perils of the path we are treading, and are striving hard to change that direction.

I would guess, having spoken to millions of Americans on the campaign trail, that most of you who are reading this book are already involved with preventive or alternative forms of medicine, organic and/or sustainable farming or the consumption of such healthier foods, socially responsible investing, with recycling and other environmentally responsible behavior, or yoga or meditation to develop the mind and body. People everywhere are awakening to the central role that nature-natural law-plays in the growth and evolution of life, and the importance of living in accord with natural law.

All that has been lacking is a political voice-and leadership-for this growing not-so-silent majority of Americans. The Natural Law Party has arisen to fill this void. Through the innovative, life-supporting policies, and the scientifically proven programs of the Natural Law Party, America can continue to grow and to prosper with even greater rates of progress-without the dangerous health, environmental, and other side-effects that will prove suicidal in the long run.

America is at a crossroads, and in desperate need of new leadership for its journey ahead. The path of least resistance is always the status quo-to tread the present course until our natural resources are exhausted, our soil depleted, our food supply contaminated, our youth incarcerated. The Republican and Democratic parties appear wed to this path-bound inextricably by their corporate sponsors. Other "single-issue" parties, despite their valiant support for important issues like personal freedom, the environment, and certain religious convictions, lack the broad vision needed to take us into the next millennium. Today, only the Natural Law Party is truly global in scope, with growing strength in over 70 countries. Its practical, field-tested programs to bring every area of national life into greater harmony with the vast organizing intelligence of nature, provide a comprehensive, scientific, secure and humane foundation for the future of civilization.

The last seven years have been a whirlwind of activity for the thousands of volunteers and heroic candidates who have built America's fastest growing grassroots party. For most of us, it has been a trial by fire, an emotional roller coaster ride. Robert Roth's book captures the agony and ecstasy of this national drama: the agony of confronting such deeply entrenched and stultifying political resistance that it will shake the reader's confidence in America's democratic institutions; the ecstasy of gaining such overwhelming support at the grassroots level of the American people that these institutional road blocks could be overcome.

Looking ahead, the next 12 months are pivotal. Campaign 2000 is proving to be an historic battleground for our political destiny. Most informed Americans realize that we cannot survive the 3rd millenium without a radical rethinking of our institutions, policies and patterns of behavior. No such leadership is coming from the dominant parties. The ideologies-and the candidates-put forward by these two parties are simply more of the same.

Today, at a time when the trust in these two parties is at an all-time low-and the depth of our leadership crisis has been starkly exposed-millions of concerned Americans, led by thousands of Natural Law Party candidates, are mounting an unprecedented national effort to rescue our country from a self-serving political-industrial oligarchy, enshrined in two parties and their corporate sponsors who, above all else, seek to preserve the status quo.

Collectively, we, the thinking majority of the American people, will reclaim our democracy, restore the greatness of America, and reconnect this precious land to the profound principles of natural law upon which it was founded.

Victory is essential. And fortunately, in the end, it is inevitable. We, the American people, have gained a new political voice, and growing political strength, through the Natural Law Party and the powerful ideas it represents. We are riding an inexorable tide of history-the rising tide of natural law which sweeps everyone and everything forward in its evolutionary path of growing truth, happiness, and ultimately, lasting fulfillment.

How quickly we succeed depends on all of us. It depends on how soon we, The People-the rightful owners and ultimate decision-makers of this land-take a stand.

I invite you to be a leader of your community, and to become a powerful spokesperson for proven solutions and crucial, life-supporting policies in harmony with natural law. Either become a candidate for the Natural Law Party yourself, or support the NLP candidates in your community as dynamically as you can.

Together, we will build that new destiny.
